Ten Companies Collaborate and Make a Difference: The MATTER Intern Event!

On July 19, 2018, ten companies joined forces to do good by offering their interns a chance to impact the community through a large, exciting event at Target Field! Hosted by MATTER, more than 440 motivated and energized interns packed approximately 7,000 healthy MATTERbox meals. The participating interns also had the opportunity to connect with their peers from other organizations, creating a unique opportunity for networking.
A key corporate partner in this event was Target Corporation. Stephanie Lundquist, Target’s EVP and Chief Human Resource Officer, kicked off the event.  Stephanie shared her story and communicated the importance of giving back. In her message she stressed, “There is something really powerful when you see a group of individuals come together to do something good.”
Following the opening message, the interns moved into the main focus of the day, packing MATTERboxes and getting to know each other. There was a great deal of excitement as numerous teams of interns worked to quickly pack meals at one station while other interns wrote out You Matter notes of encouragement for MATTERbox recipients.

One intern from C.H. Robinson enthusiastically remarked, “Had a great time today as I was able to meet new people and help out a great cause like MATTER!” Another intern from Target reflected on the day commenting, “I think today was really awesome because it is really cool that all these companies in Minneapolis let their interns take time out of their day, out of the work they are doing, to go and make a difference in the community and learn about MATTER, who does so much for people all over the place. I think it was a really great time to get to know each other, people outside of those you work with. Yeah, a really good day!”

“This event provides a great opportunity for companies to give back to the community while also providing their interns an interactive way to network with their peers,” commented Tyler Van Eps, Vice President of Corporate Relations for MATTER. “It was very fulfilling to work with such a dedicated group of organizations that believe in collaborating to help provide healthy food in our community!”

So far in 2018, MATTER has distributed approximately 85,000 meals throughout the country through the MATTERbox program. To learn more about how your company can get involved with MATTERbox, visit our website at SPONSOR A MATTERBOX EVENT or contact tyler@matter.ngo.
